Functional connectivity among brain regions, as it relates to cognition, resting state, and disease, is one of the most active current themes in neuroimaging research. However, there are many methods to estimate functional connectivity, and little agreement amongst experts about which methods are best for which circumstances. This conference is designed to increase understanding of the strengths and limitations of different functional connectivity methods. The speakers have analyzed the same dataset in different ways and will present their results along with practical discussions about the strengths and weaknesses of their applied analytic approach.
Topics and techniques
The purpose of this two-day conference is to discuss, describe and examine various three different methodological approaches to functional connectivity in two imaging modalities -- fMRI and MEG. Topics include ancestral graph analysis, dynamical causal modeling, and Granger causality with fMRI data, and ICA, sensor-level and source-space-level connectivity with MEG data.
Program
The first day will focus on functional connectivity analysis with fMRI, and the second day will focus on MEG. To best compare the relative merits of various approaches, the ABC will have a unique set up. We collected fMRI and MEG data from two subjects in a simple cognitive task. The speakers will all analyse these same data using different techniques. The data will be made available to conference attendees after the conference, so that they may examine the methods themselves in more detail. Location
All talks will be held in the M-building of the Roeterseilandcomplex at the University of Amsterdam.
